This POE HAT can power Raspberry Pi 4B 3B+ as well as another 12V device, such as a 12V LCD screen or a 3.5in USB hard drive, as long as the power of this 12V device is not high enough to affect Raspberry Pi. But the premise is that you need to use a POE switch that supports IEEE802.3AT
When using the 802.3af standard POE switch,the maximum output power is about 14Watt, such as:(5V2A+12V0.3A),(5V1.5A+12V0.5A) or (5V1A+12V0.75A). the maximum output power is only 12.5Watt If only output 5V. After testing,it can not be connected to the 3.5in USB hard drive when working with 802.3af standard POE switch,It will cause the POE switch to cut off the power output due to overload. However, the external 12V LCD screen seems to work normally
In addition, the official website FAQs mentions that the Typical bare-board active current consumption of Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ is 0.5a (2.5watt). However, it is recommended to reserve at least 1A(5watt) for Raspberry Pi when there is no external devices (usb,camera,spi, etc.).
